Dubious Colnago MTB

DS Tim Italia 90 promo Colnago MTB Frame. Ridden by Alex CBK in Philly Tracklocross 1. Third place finish on this tank.

Tim (me, I know it’s weird) :That colnago bike frame I have is def of dubious origins. It’s def really colnago branded but I do not think that thing came off the floor at the colnago factory. I’ve seen maybe 4 versions of it , it was a promo thing for the 91 World Cup.

Derek: Lugs and fork on your blue one definitely look like real colnago mtb-Taper straight blade fork looks so cool

Tim: It’s got a kickstand bridge on the chain stays…

Derek’s resprayed 90s MTB with Colnago detail.

Some educated guesses :

Richard B : Kona likely, though not sure about that little noodle for the rear brake. Ritchey did that at points, not to suggest it’s a Ritchey. Only other mainstream brand that comes to mind is Rocky Mountain but doubtful(?)- the had seat stays meet the seat tube cluster higher than the top tube. Anything interesting about the Serial Number? Kona fork seems like a big hint.

Derek: We were thinking it could be some sort of one off early Joe Murray frame because of the track 2 and since everything about it points to a early 90’s kona except no downtube cable routing, potentially “high end” with its slightly ovalized tubes, but it does have braze on rack mounts and drop outs aren’t anything special.

Damien: I feel like that front derailleur pulley tapped into the frame might help you narrow it down. I’ll guess it’s a sSpecialized.
